Arbroath (Aberbrothock) in Angus dates to the Iron Age. It was an early royal burgh, site of an abbey and the location of the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320. Traditional trades such as fishing, the port activity and weaving and spinning were important in the 18th and 19th centuries.
