Renton in the Vale of Leven is in West Dunbartonshire. It was important for textiles, bleaching and printing in the 18th century (Dalquhurn Works, Cordale Printworks). It was designed as a model village named after a relative of the landowner. In the 1950s it was rebuilt with public housing. Industrial decline has blighted the area. Nearby towns retain some employment and an engineering works is to be found in Renton.
