Rosewell, Midlothian

Rosewell is in Midlothian. Arhibald Hood created the village as a mining settlement in the 19th century when he bought the colliery and expanded mining also creating an oil works. Bricks were also made and the houses are of brick. Whitehill Coilliery closed in 1961. The town is primarily residential although small engineering and metal work industry remains.
