Salsburgh is in North Lanarkshire. The name is from Sally's town, Sally being a landowner who extended the former row of houses known as Craighead in the 18th century. In the 19th century coal mining and quarrying were important. In the 20th century public housing was built for the miners. The last of five mines closed in the 1960s. It is predominantly residential Two coach companies have depots in the town.
