Clarkston is a suburb of Glasgow although it is located in East Renfrewshire. Its name derives from that of the man who looked after the toll house on the Glasgow to Kilmarnock road. The arrival of the railway in 1866 and the Glasgow tram in the 1920s encouraged its establishment as a suburb.
