Comrie in Perth and Kinross lies at the confluence of two rivers. This may account for its long history of habitation from pre-Christian times through Roman times. It became a weaving and droving town. After the 1745 dispossessed crofters moved to Comrie. It became popular in Victorian times when it was on the railway. Today it is a retirement town although locally distilling and Hydro schemes also offer employment. The community recently purchased the former prisoner of war camp at Cultybraggan is now a biomass plant. It is the site where earthquakes are measured.
