Stepps is in North Lanarkshire. It emerged after the arrival of the railway in the 1830s. It is nowadays a suburb of Glasgow. It was known for whisky distilling but following a takeover the business in Stepps was closed. The site is now a business park providing office accommodation for a range of holding and construction companies (including Barratt). The Cardowan Colliery which supplied coal and gas operated between 1924 and 1984.
